Spring Rich - Developer's Introspection

As I'm working my way through the Spring Rich petclinic app, there are bunches of questions that come to mind. I thought it would be good to track these questions here for now. At the very least, it may serve to provide new developers with some design thoughts, questions, answers, etc.
